Changing Lives

WHO ARE WE

M.E.D. Community Thrift Store is a division of Foundation for Educational Development, Inc., a non-profit organization, supported entirely by tax deductible gifts from churches, civic groups, corporate donations, grants, foundations, individuals and planned giving.  M.E.D. Community Thrift Store derived from a very dear business partner and trusted friend, Mary Eleanor Diener. She was the inspiration for a community development program such as this. In honor of her memory the name was dedicated in her memory. I also had a desire to play an intricate role in the community. I felt compelled to begin my endeavor with a Thrift store in Four Oaks, NC. This was my way of giving back to the community. During such time I met my business partner Lt. Billie Williams.  He retired on June 29, 2012, after 34 years of a successful career in Law Enforcement of which 23 years was with the Four Oaks Police Department. He continued to serve the community through the services M.E.D. offered. On March 17th, 2019 MED Community Thrift Store lost a Veteran to Parkinson/Dementia. M.E.D. will continue to keep his legacy and passion for helping others alive.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the M.E.D. Community Thrift Store is dedicated to serving our Communities.  Showing the love and support to those that are in need...Our Hope is that we build a stable and lasting relationship with those that continue to give back and provide a service that's needed.

WHAT DO WE DO

M.E.D. Community Thrift Store specializing in new and slightly used household items, furniture and quality clothing items for the entire family. We carry affordable merchandise that appeal to men, women and children. In addition, we will be a resource that addresses other needs in the community in a variety of areas for its diverse citizens. We intend to be an establishment where people can not only come to improve their outward appearance but where they can come and get information and become involved in activities that will address their other needs like health, wellness, education and training, and personal development.

The needs of communities like Ayden, and surrounding areas are changing. Though the economy appears to be getting better, there are still many individuals and families that are not only struggling financially but also struggling with broken spirits and a sense of hopelessness. We want to be a resource in this community that goes beyond dealing with our customers as just a business transaction, but by providing information, events and activities we can truly help make our residents better. We know ultimately we will be helping Ayden but to be a better community in Pitt County.
